Daphne's Greek Cafe, also known as Daphne's California Greek, is a restaurant chain in California. It serves Greek-inspired food in a "fast-casual" style. This means you can get tasty meals quickly without a fancy sit-down experience. The restaurant's name comes from Daphne, a famous figure in ancient Greek stories.

Daphne's has received good reviews over the years. In 2006, Fast Casual magazine listed it among the "Top 100 Movers and Shakers." The magazine praised Daphne's for being a trendsetter in fast-casual dining. It also mentioned the chain's great gyros. In June 2008, San Diego Magazine voted Daphne's as the "Best Greek" restaurant.

History of Daphne's

Daphne's Greek Cafe was started by George Katakalidis in 1991. The restaurant chain grew over the years. However, in January 2010, Daphne's faced some financial challenges. It had to reorganize its business.

An investor group, led by William Trefethen, bought the company. In 2011, Daphne's changed its name to Daphne's California Greek. This change came with a new idea for its food. The new concept focused on fresh ingredients. It blended California cooking styles with Greek flavors.

The William Trefethen group continued to update the brand for about four years. Then, they sold the company to another investment group. This group was called Victory Park Capital, from Chicago.

In early 2024, many Daphne's locations closed down. This included all restaurants in Orange County and San Diego County. As of April 2024, only six locations remain open. Five of these are in Southern California. One is in the Sacramento area. The remaining locations are in Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Redondo Beach, Temecula, Ontario, and Roseville.
