What is Dardistown?
Dardistown is part of a larger area called the civil parish of Santry. Think of a civil parish as an old way of dividing up land, often for official records. Even though it's a small place, it's important for the areas around it.
Location and Landmarks
One of the big car parks for Dublin Airport is found in Dardistown. This car park is used by people who are going away for a long time and need a safe place to leave their cars.
There is also a place called Dardistown Cemetery here. A cemetery is a special place where people are buried. It is located on a part of the old Swords Road, near an area called Collinstown.
Natural Features
Dardistown is home to two small streams. These are like tiny rivers. They are called the Cuckoo Stream and the Turnapin Stream. These two streams flow through Dardistown.
After flowing through Dardistown, the Cuckoo Stream and the Turnapin Stream meet each other. When they join together, they form a bigger river called the Mayne River. This is how many rivers start, with smaller streams joining up.
Plans for a Metro Station
For a while, there were plans to build a new train system called the Dublin Metro. A metro is like an underground train or subway system that helps people travel quickly around a city.
The Proposed Metro Lines
Dardistown was planned to be a very important stop on this new metro system. One line, called Metro West, was supposed to end there. Another line, called Metro North, was planned to go through Dardistown.
Metro North would have traveled south from Dardistown into Dublin city centre, reaching a famous spot called St Stephen's Green. It would also have gone north from Dardistown to the town of Swords.
Why the Plans Changed
However, in 2011, the plans for the Dublin Metro changed. A government official named Leo Varadkar, who was the Minister for Transport at the time, announced some news. He said that the plans for Metro North would be put on hold.
This decision was made because of a "recession." A recession is a time when the economy of a country is not doing very well. There isn't as much money available, so big projects like the metro often have to wait. The plans for the metro were put off until a later time, and they are still being discussed today.
