Laurence Daren King (born in 1972 in Harlow, Essex) is an English writer. He writes both novels for adults and exciting stories for children.
His very first novel, Boxy an Star, was published in 1999. It was a big success, being nominated for important awards like the Guardian First Book Award and the Booker Prize. Later, in 2006, Daren King won the gold medal for the Nestlé Children's Book Prize. He received this award for his fun children's book, Mouse Noses on Toast.

About Daren King's Life
Daren King was born in Harlow, Essex in 1972. He didn't finish school with many qualifications. However, he later went on to study creative writing. He graduated from a special writing course at Bath Spa University College. This shows that there are many paths to becoming a writer!
Daren King's Books
While he was studying in Bath, Daren King wrote his first novel. This book was called Boxy an Star. It was published in 1999 and quickly became popular. It was even considered for major book awards.
Daren King was also part of a group of writers called the New Puritans. This group was known for its unique writing style. He contributed a short story to their book, All Hail the New Puritans. Interestingly, some of his friends who edited that book later appeared as characters in his novel Jim Giraffe.
In 2006, Daren King started writing books for younger readers. His first children's book was Mouse Noses on Toast. This book was illustrated by David Roberts. They have worked together on many more exciting children's stories since then.
