Darin Johnson's Basketball Journey
Early Years and College Play
Darin Johnson started his basketball journey in high school. He played at Franklin High School and Sheldon High School in California. He was considered a very promising player, known as a "four-star prospect." This means he was one of the top high school players in the country.
In 2013, Darin went to the University of Washington to play college basketball. During his first year, he scored about 5.9 points and grabbed 1.6 rebounds per game. In his second year, he averaged 4.4 points and 1.6 rebounds.
After two years at Washington, Darin decided to transfer to Cal State Northridge. He had to sit out one season before he could play for his new team. His coach at Cal State Northridge, Reggie Theus, was excited to have him. Coach Theus said Darin was very quick and good at getting to the basket. He also mentioned that Darin was a good mid-range shooter.
Darin played for Cal State Northridge in the 2016–17 season. He played in 30 games that year. He had a great season, averaging 13.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.
Becoming a Professional Player
After his junior year at Cal State Northridge, Darin decided to become a professional basketball player. He chose to enter the 2017 NBA draft instead of finishing his college degree. He was even invited to try out for the Sacramento Kings team.
Darin was chosen by the Delaware 87ers in the 2017 NBA G League Draft. This is a draft for a league that helps players develop their skills for the NBA. In his first season with the 87ers, he averaged 6.2 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game.
In October 2018, Darin signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, a famous NBA team. However, he was waived (released) by the team the very next day. He then joined the Delaware Blue Coats for their training camp.
Playing Around the World
Darin continued his professional career by playing for teams in different countries. In 2019, he signed with Rayos de Hermosillo in Mexico. This team plays in the CIBACOPA league.
Later in September 2019, Darin joined the Maree Basketball Club in Ireland. This team plays in the Irish Super League. His performance in Ireland was excellent, and he was named to the All-Star Third Team for the league.
