Dario Antoniozzi (born December 11, 1923 – died December 25, 2019) was an important Italian politician. He worked to serve his country for many years.

He was also the father of Alfredo Antoniozzi, who was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 2004 to 2014 for the Forza Italia party.

Dario Antoniozzi was born in a town called Rieti in Italy. However, he grew up in Cosenza. His father, Florindo, moved there for his job as a manager at a bank.

Dario Antoniozzi was first elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1953. The Chamber of Deputies is like one of the main parts of the Italian Parliament, where laws are made. He served there until 1980.

He was also a leader in a big political party called the Christian Democracy. He was the Vice-Secretary of the party and led it in the region of Calabria for a long time.

Antoniozzi held several important jobs in the Italian government:

  • From 1970 to 1972, he was the Secretary of the Council of Ministers. This is a key role that helps the Prime Minister manage the government.
  • From 1976 to 1978, he was the Minister of Tourism and Entertainment. This job involved looking after Italy's tourism industry and cultural events.
  • From 1978 to 1979, he became the Minister for Cultural and Environmental Heritage. In this role, he helped protect Italy's historical sites, art, and natural environment.

In 1979, Dario Antoniozzi became a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). This meant he helped make decisions for the whole of Europe. He was very popular and was re-elected in 1984. Later, in 1989, he faced some challenges within his political party and was not re-elected. After this, he stopped being an active politician. However, he continued to travel the world, giving talks about Europe and its importance.

Dario Antoniozzi passed away on December 25, 2019.

Awards and Recognition

  •  Italy: He received the Gold medal for the merits of culture and art in Rome on October 30, 1980. This award recognized his important contributions to Italian culture and art.
