The Chase (British game show) facts for kids
The Chase is a super popular British TV game show. It airs on ITV and first started on June 29, 2009. The show is hosted by Bradley Walsh. It has been on TV for many years, with lots of seasons!
How the Game Works
The game has four players who work together. First, each player gets 60 seconds to answer as many questions as they can. Every correct answer adds £1,000 to their personal money pot. After all four players have had their turn, they each face a tough opponent called the "Chaser."
Facing the Chaser
In this round, the player's money is placed on a special board. This board has seven steps. The player starts three steps ahead of the Chaser. The Chaser then offers two new amounts of money. One amount is usually higher than what the player earned. The other amount is lower.
For example, if a player earned £6,000, the Chaser might offer £12,000 (a higher amount) or £3,000 (a lower amount). If the player chooses the higher amount, their head start on the board shrinks to two steps. If they choose the lower amount, their head start grows to four steps.
After the player picks an amount, both the player and the Chaser answer the same multiple-choice question. They both lock in their answers at the same time. If one person answers later, they get five seconds to decide.
- If the player answers correctly, they move one step closer to the end of the board.
- If the Chaser answers correctly, they move one step closer to catching the player.
- If either person answers incorrectly, they stay in the same spot.
If the player reaches the end of the board without being caught, their money is added to the team's total prize fund. But if the Chaser catches the player, that player is out of the game, and their money is lost. This round happens for all four players. Any players who make it through move on to the Final Chase. If all four players are caught, the team still gets £4,000, and they choose one player to play the Final Chase.
The Final Chase
In the Final Chase, the remaining player(s) try to win the team's prize money. They get a head start: one step for each player who made it to this round. They then have two minutes to answer as many questions as they can. Each correct answer adds another step to their lead.
After the players' time is up, the Chaser gets two minutes to answer questions and try to catch them. If the Chaser doesn't catch the players within their two minutes, the players win all the prize money! But if the Chaser does catch them, the players leave with nothing.
