About Darrin Madison
Darrin Madison Jr. grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. When he was young, he learned about activism through a program called "Young Scientist." This program was at Milwaukee's Urban Ecology Center.
When he was 14, Darrin joined large protests against a law called 2011 Wisconsin Act 10. This law changed rules for public workers. Later that year, he joined Urban Underground. This was a group in Milwaukee led by young people. They worked on social justice issues. Social justice means working to make things fair for everyone in society.
Darrin finished high school at Ronald Wilson Reagan College Preparatory High School in 2015. Then, he went to Howard University in Washington, D.C.. While studying there, he also worked on political campaigns. These were in Maryland, D.C., and Alaska.
After college, Darrin returned to Milwaukee. He became an AmeriCorps Public Allies volunteer. This program helps people serve their communities. He worked again with the Urban Ecology Center. He also worked with Milwaukee's Environmental Collaboration Office.
Darrin's Political Journey
In 2020, a politician named Supreme Moore Omokunde was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly. This meant he had to leave his old job on the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors. The County Board helps manage local government in Milwaukee County.
A special election was held to fill his old seat. Darrin Madison was one of five people who wanted the job. He came in second place in the first round of voting, called the primary election. Then, he ran against Priscilla Coggs-Jones in the final election in April 2021. Darrin lost that election by only 12 votes.
Later that year, the person representing the 10th Assembly district, David Bowen, decided not to run again. He chose to run for Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin instead. Darrin Madison decided to run for the 10th Assembly district seat. He won the Democratic Party's primary election against Bryan Kennedy. In the final election, Darrin had no opponent. This is because his district usually votes for Democratic candidates. He became a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly in January 2023.
