About Darrin Madison

Early Life and Activism

Darrin Madison Jr. grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. From a young age, he learned about activism. He joined a program called "Young Scientist" at the Urban Ecology Center in Milwaukee.

When he was 14, Darrin took part in large protests. These protests were against a new law in Wisconsin. This law changed how public employees could work together to ask for better conditions. Later that year, he joined Urban Underground. This was a group led by young people who worked for social justice in Milwaukee.

As a teenager, Darrin worked on many social justice projects. These projects focused on getting jobs for young people. They also worked on improving education, public safety, and environmental fairness.

Education and Community Work

Darrin finished high school at Ronald Wilson Reagan College Preparatory High School in 2015. He then went to Howard University in Washington, D.C.. While studying there, he also worked on political campaigns in Maryland, D.C., and Alaska.

After college, Darrin returned to Milwaukee. He became a volunteer with AmeriCorps Public Allies. He worked again with the Urban Ecology Center. He also helped the Milwaukee Environmental Collaboration Office.

Darrin's Political Journey

Running for County Board

In 2020, a leader on the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors left his seat. This created an open spot. A special election was held to fill it. Darrin Madison was one of five people who wanted the job.

He came in second place in the first round of voting. This meant he would run against Priscilla Coggs-Jones in the main election. In April 2021, Darrin lost the election by only 12 votes. It was a very close race!

Becoming a State Assembly Member

Later in 2021, the person representing the Wisconsin's 10th Assembly district in the State Assembly, David Bowen, decided not to run again. He chose to run for a different position.

Darrin Madison decided to run for the State Assembly seat. He won the Democratic Party's nomination. In the main election, Darrin did not have an opponent. This district usually votes for Democratic candidates. He officially became a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly in January 2023.
