Darryl Johnson was born in Flint, Michigan, in 1965. He loved playing basketball from a young age. He often played at Jackson Park in his hometown.
He went to Michigan State University for college. There, he played basketball for the Michigan State Spartans. He had a very successful four-year career from 1983 to 1987.
Starting His Professional Career
After college, Darryl Johnson was chosen in the 1987 NBA draft. The Golden State Warriors picked him in the third round. He was the 58th player picked overall. However, he never played a game for the Warriors.
Instead, he started his professional career in other leagues. He played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). He also played in the World Basketball League (WBL). In 1991, he even won a championship in the WBL.
Playing in the NBA
Darryl Johnson did get a chance to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played 11 games for the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 1995–96 NBA season. During this time, he averaged 1.1 points per game. He also attended a training camp with the Indiana Pacers in 1990.
Playing Around the World
Darryl Johnson had a long career playing basketball in many different places. He played for teams in the United States. He also played overseas in other countries. He played in the Philippines, Spain, and South America. He was a very experienced player.
He was recognized for his skills in Canada. In 1993, he was named to the All-League Team in the Canadian NBL. He retired from playing professional basketball in 2003.
