The David Ashbridge Log House is a very old and special home. You can find it at 1181 King Road in West Whiteland Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. This house is part of the Battle of the Clouds Historic District.

A Quaker farmer named David Ashbridge built this house in 1782. Quakers are a religious group known for their peaceful beliefs. Because of its history, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. This means it's an important historical site.

What Makes This House Special?

This historic house has a unique story. In 1981, Diane Snyder helped study the house. She said it was built by an English farmer. But he used a German building style!

This mix of styles makes the house very interesting. It is also one of only three log houses still standing in the township. Log houses used to be very common there.

Who Built This Historic Home?

The West Whiteland Township Historic Commission has studied the house's past. They found that David Ashbridge was the first owner. He was an English Quaker farmer.

He was also one of the first people to settle in the township. He built the house on 96 acres of land.

How Was the House Built?

The original part of the house was finished in 1782. It has two stories. It is a "banked" log structure. This means part of it is built into a hillside.

The house is 20 feet wide and 25 feet long. It has a sloped roof called a gable roof. The logs are covered with wood siding. This protects them and makes the house look nice.

In 1970, a new section was added to the house. This part was built with a wooden frame. The entire property was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
