David Barclay Moore is an American filmmaker and writer. He divides his time between Brooklyn, New York, and Los Angeles, California. In 2018, he won the Coretta Scott King-John Steptoe Author Award for New Talent. He received this award for his middle grade novel, The Stars Beneath Our Feet. Middle grade books are written for readers aged 8 to 12.
About David Barclay Moore
Moore grew up in Missouri. He studied film at Howard University in Washington, D.C. He also studied creative writing at Iowa State University. Later, he learned languages at the University of Montpellier in France.
Early in his career, Moore made films. He also helped non-profit groups share their messages.
The Stars Beneath Our Feet
Moore's first novel, The Stars Beneath Our Feet, came out on September 19, 2017. It was published by Knopf Books. The book tells the story of a 12-year-old boy from Harlem. He is learning to cope with big changes in his life.
The book received praise from many places. These included the American Library Association (ALA) and The New York Times. Moore won the 2018 Coretta Scott King-John Steptoe Author Award for New Talent for this book.
The Stars Beneath Our Feet is now being made into a movie. Michael B. Jordan's company, Outlier Society Productions, is creating the screenplay. Moore is helping to write the script and produce the film.
