David John Fletcher (born in 1942) is an English author and historian. He is an expert in the history of armored vehicles, especially those from the United Kingdom.
David Fletcher's Work
David Fletcher spent many years working at The Tank Museum in Bovington, England. He started there in 1982 and worked until December 2012. He was the museum's longest-serving staff member.
Sharing Tank Knowledge
Even after leaving his full-time role, David continued to share his knowledge. He became well-known for hosting a video series called 'Tank Chats'. These videos were featured on The Tank Museum's YouTube channel. In each video, he would give viewers a quick look at a specific tank from the museum's collection. The 'Tank Chats' series ended in 2023.
In 2012, David was also part of a big meeting called Operation Think Tank. This international event in California focused on tanks and their history.
Special Recognition
In his last year at The Tank Museum, David Fletcher received a special award. He was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). This award was given to him for his important contributions to the history of armored warfare. It was announced in the Queen's New Year's Honours list.
