David "Nana" Grant (born in 1956, died in 1994) was a talented Australian rugby league player. He came from Dubbo, New South Wales. David played in the 1970s and 1980s. He was known for playing in positions like prop and back-rower. He played for several teams in the big New South Wales Rugby Football League (NSWRFL) competition.

David Grant's Rugby League Journey

David Grant started his professional rugby league career in Sydney. He moved from Forbes to play in the big city.

Early Career and First Teams

David played his first game for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 1976. The next year, he joined the Eastern Suburbs Roosters. He played one season there. He was the 678th player to ever play for the Roosters club.

After that, David moved to the Balmain Tigers. He played with them for four years. During this time, he also traveled to New Zealand. He went with a team made up of players from different Sydney clubs.

Becoming a Raiders Captain

In 1982, David Grant joined the Canberra Raiders. This was a new team that had just joined the top rugby league competition. David became the very first captain for the Raiders. He led the team in their first season in the New South Wales Rugby League premiership. He played for the Raiders until 1985.

Later Life and Legacy

David Grant continued to be involved in rugby league. He played for the Kyogle team later in his life.

David Grant sadly passed away in Kyogle in 1994. He died from a heart attack. He is remembered as an important player. He helped start the Canberra Raiders team.
