David Hamilton of Cadzow facts for kids
Sir David Hamilton of Cadzow (born around 1333, died around 1392) was an important Scottish nobleman. He was the 3rd Laird of Cadzow, which means he was the main landowner and leader of that area. David was born at Cadzow Castle in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. His father was David fitz Walter fitz Gilbert of Cadzow.
David Hamilton was a special person in his family's history. He was the very first one to officially use the surname "Hamilton." Before him, his family used names like "fitz Walter." In 1375, a formal document called a "writ" mentioned him as "David de Hamylton." Later, in 1381, he was called "David Hamilton, Lord of Cadzow." This shows he was also the first in his family to use the important title of "Lord."
