David Rostomovich Khakhaleishvili (Georgian: დავით როსტომის ძე ხახალეიშვილი; born February 28, 1971 – died January 11, 2021) was a famous Georgian judoka and an Olympic gold medalist. He was known for competing in the heavyweight division. David was born in Kutaisi, Georgia. He also competed in Mixed martial arts.

David Khakhaleishvili's Judo Career
David Khakhaleishvili was a very successful judoka. He won a gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. This was a huge achievement for him and his country. He competed in the super heavyweight category (over 95 kg).
European and World Championships
Besides his Olympic success, David also won many medals at the European Championships and World Championships. He earned three gold medals at the European Championships in 1993 and 1996. He also won silver and bronze medals at the World Championships in 1991, 1993, and 1995.
Missing the 1996 Olympics
David was expected to defend his Olympic title at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, U.S.. However, he was unfortunately disqualified from the competition. This happened because he missed the official weigh-ins, which are required for all athletes before they compete. It was a disappointing moment for him and his fans.
Mixed Martial Arts
After his judo career, David Khakhaleishvili also tried his hand at Mixed martial arts. He competed in a few professional fights between 1995 and 2003.
