David Quinn Mayne, born on April 23, 1930, is a smart British person who has been a teacher, engineer, and writer. What David Mayne Did

David Mayne started his teaching career in 1950 at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. He taught there for several years.

Later, from 1959 to 1967, he taught at Imperial College London. While there, he earned his PhD degree in 1967 from the University of London. A PhD is a very high academic degree.

In 1971, he was a special researcher at Harvard University in the United States. After that, he returned to Imperial College London. There, he became a professor of something called control theory from 1971 to 1991. Control theory is about how to make systems work smoothly and efficiently, like how a thermostat controls the temperature in a room. For a few years, he also led the Electrical Engineering Department at Imperial College.

From 1989 to 1996, he was a professor at the University of California, Davis. After 1996, he became a professor emeritus, which means he retired but still holds an honorary title at the university.

In 2006, he was given an honorary professor title at Beihang University in Beijing, China. Many students learned from him, including Peter Caines.
