David de Jesus Mourão-Ferreira (born February 24, 1927, in Lisbon – died June 16, 1996, in Lisbon) was a famous Portuguese writer and poet. He was born and lived in Lisbon, Portugal.
David Mourão-Ferreira was the son of David Ferreira and Teresa de Jesus Ferro Mourão. He went to the University of Lisbon. In 1951, he studied Romanic Philology, which is the study of languages like Portuguese and Spanish. By 1957, he became a professor at the university.
After his death, his work continued to be honored. In 2005, the University of Bari in Italy and the Instituto Camões (a Portuguese cultural organization) created a special program in his name. This program, called the Cátedra David Mourão-Ferreira, helps people learn more about his writings.
