David Roy Plummer's Early Life and Music Career
David Roy Plummer studied art and design. He graduated from the Reigate School of Art and Design in 1968. After his studies, he started his journey in the music world.
Plummer signed record deals with major companies in London. These included EMI, CBS, and President Records. He worked as a session musician, which means he played instruments and sang for many different bands and artists without being a permanent member of one band. He was mainly a bass player and singer.
As a session musician, Plummer recorded music and toured across the United Kingdom and Europe. He performed with several bands, including the group Kenny. He even appeared on Top of the Pops, a famous BBC television show that featured popular music artists. Besides playing for others, he also wrote songs and produced records.
Creating Music for Children
David Roy Plummer found a special way to combine his love for music with children's literature. He teamed up with John Archambault, an author, to create music for the best-selling children's book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. This book was written by Bill Martin, Jr. and John Archambault.
Their musical project for Chicka Chicka Boom Boom was very successful. It won an important award called the Notable Children's Recording from the American Library Association. It also received a Parents' Choice Gold Award, showing how much families loved it.
Since this first project, David and John have continued to work together. They have released six music albums under the name John & David. These albums are on the Youngheart Music record label.
