David Murray Shepherd, born in 1973, is a Canadian politician. He is a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Alberta. He was first elected in the 2015 Alberta general election to represent Edmonton-Centre. Later, in the 2019 Alberta general election, he was re-elected for the Edmonton-City Centre area. He is part of the Alberta New Democratic Party.

About David Shepherd
David Shepherd has a special degree in Professional Communications from Royal Roads University. He also studied music performance and sound recording at MacEwan University. Before becoming a politician, David worked in many different jobs. He was a taxpayer service agent, a salesperson, and even a musician and studio engineer.
He also worked in communications. He trained people for the Canada Revenue Agency. He was an advisor and writer for a business group called the North Edge Business Association. David also worked as a Communications Officer for the City of Edmonton and wrote for Alberta Health.
As a musician, David played piano and keyboards for several bands. He also made his own music. In 2010, he released his own album called Gotta Leave Where You're From. David is also a big fan of cycling. He volunteered for the Edmonton Bike Coalition as a spokesperson and organizer.
David Shepherd's Political Work
Recognizing Black History Month
In 2017, David Shepherd worked with Ricardo Miranda, who was the Minister of Culture and Tourism at the time. Together, they helped make Alberta the fourth province in Canada to officially recognize February as Black History Month. David also worked with Bob Wanner, who was the Speaker of the Legislature. They hosted the first celebration of Black History Month at the Alberta Legislature. This event is now held every year.
Roles in the Alberta NDP Caucus
After he was re-elected in 2019, David was chosen to be the Critic for Health for the Alberta NDP Caucus. He held this important role until January 2024. In September 2024, he was given new responsibilities. He became the Alberta NDP Caucus' Shadow Minister for Public Safety and Emergency Services. He also took on the role of Deputy House Leader.
