Early Life and Education

David Templeton Gibson was born in Ireland on November 23, 1899. His father, Thomas Henry Gibson, was a lawyer. David first went to school at Bangor Grammar School in Ireland.

In 1910, his family moved to Scotland. He then attended Ayr Academy until 1917. After that, he went back to Ireland to study science at the University of Belfast. He earned his Master of Science (MSc) degree in 1921. He then continued his studies at the University of London, where he received his first doctorate (PhD) in 1923.

Working as a Chemist

After finishing his studies, David Templeton Gibson joined the University of Glasgow in 1924. He started as an Assistant Lecturer in Chemistry. This was the beginning of his long career there.

The University of Glasgow recognized his hard work. They gave him an honorary doctorate (DSc) in 1932. This is a special degree given to people who have achieved great things. After this, he became a Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry. Later, in 1949, he became a Senior Lecturer in Medical Chemistry.

Helping During Wartime

During the Second World War, David Templeton Gibson used his chemistry knowledge to help. He advised the RAF (Royal Air Force) on important scientific matters related to warfare.

Later Years and Achievements

In 1956, David Templeton Gibson was chosen as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. This is a very special honor for scientists in Scotland. It means he was recognized as a leading expert in his field.

He retired from his work at the university in 1965. David Templeton Gibson passed away on March 6, 1985.
