Davy and the Goblin is an exciting fantasy novel written by Charles E. Carryl. Its full title is Davy and the Goblin, or, What Followed Reading "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". This book was first shared in parts, called a "serial," in St. Nicholas magazine from December 1884 to March 1885. Later in 1885, it was published as a full book by Houghton Mifflin in Boston and Frederick Warne in London.
Davy and the Goblin was one of the very first stories to be inspired by Lewis Carroll's famous books. These include Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (published in 1865) and Through the Looking-Glass (published in 1871).

What the Story is About
The story follows an eight-year-old boy named Davy. He is reading Lewis Carroll's classic book, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, while sitting by the fireplace. As he reads, Davy starts to feel very sleepy.
Davy's Magical Journey
Suddenly, a Goblin appears right in the fire! This goblin is munching on coals. The goblin then takes Davy on an amazing "believing voyage." During this journey, Davy meets many different characters. These characters come from both fantasy worlds and other famous stories. It's an adventure where anything can happen!
Who Drew the Pictures?
The book features wonderful drawings that help tell the story. These detailed line drawings were created by an artist named Edmund Birckhead Bensell. His pictures bring Davy's magical journey to life.
Another Book by the Author
Charles E. Carryl, the author of Davy and the Goblin, wrote another book that was also inspired by Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. This second book is called The Admiral's Caravan. It was published a few years later, in 1891.
