Dawsonville is a small, unincorporated community located in Nodaway County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially governed by its own local city or town government. Instead, it's usually part of a larger county.
History of Dawsonville
Dawsonville was first planned and settled in 1879. It was named after an early settler in the area, a person named Lafe Dawson.
Over time, this community was known by a few different names, including "City Bluff," "Dawson," and "Halsas Ferry."
An important part of any growing community in the past was having a post office. A post office, named "Dawson," was opened here in 1880. This allowed people to send and receive mail, connecting them to other places. The post office served the community for many years before it closed down in 1904.
