Daytona Beach Boardwalk facts for kids
The Daytona Beach Boardwalk is a super fun place located right on the beach in Daytona Beach, Florida. It's a long concrete walkway filled with exciting things to do! You can find lots of different stores, cool shops, and places to eat. There are also hotels, gift shops, and big amusement centers with arcades. The boardwalk is open every day of the week, so you can visit whenever you like.
You'll find awesome rides like a giant Ferris wheel, the Slingshot, Hurricane, and Tilt-O-Whirl. There are also go-carts and a rollercoaster for thrill-seekers! During the summer, you can enjoy free concerts at the Daytona Beach Bandshell, which is at the north end of the boardwalk.
The Daytona Beach Pier, also called the Main Street Pier, is another cool spot nearby. It was built a long time ago in the late 1800s. The pier starts at the east end of Main Street, just south of the boardwalk, and stretches 1,000 feet out into the Atlantic Ocean. It's a great place to walk out over the water!
The boardwalk was originally called the "Broadwalk" because it was very wide and made of cement, not wooden boards. However, the editor of the local newspaper decided to call it the "boardwalk" instead, and that's the name everyone uses today!
