Deán Funes is a city in the province of Córdoba, Argentina. It is the biggest city in the northwest part of the province. About 21,211 people lived there according to the 2010 census.
The city is the main town of the Ischilín Department. It is located along National Route 60. Deán Funes is about 118 kilometers (73 miles) away from Córdoba, which is the capital city of the province.

History of Deán Funes
The area where Deán Funes is located started as a settlement. It was officially founded as Villa de Deán Funes on March 9, 1875. This happened when the Ferrocarril Central Norte (Central North Railway) train line reached this area.
How the City Got Its Name
The city was named to honor Gregorio Funes. He was a famous writer and a deacon (a type of church official) from the Archdiocese of Córdoba. Gregorio Funes was also a deputy, which means he was a representative, in the Junta Grande. This was an important government group formed after the May Revolution in 1810.
Growth and Development
After it was founded, Deán Funes welcomed many new people. There was a strong wave of immigration to the area. Most of these new residents came from Spain, Italy, Arab countries, and Yugoslavia. These new families helped the town grow and develop. The town officially became a city on October 29, 1929.
Festivals and Events
Deán Funes is known for hosting a special event every year. The city holds the Northern Córdoba Tradition Festival. This festival takes place in the first half of January. It celebrates the traditions and culture of the northern part of Córdoba province.
