De’Runnya S. Wilson (born September 14, 1994 – died January 21, 2020) was an American football player. He was a wide receiver for the Albany Empire in the Arena Football League (AFL). Before that, he played college football for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

High School Sports Star

De'Runnya Wilson went to Wenonah High School in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a very talented basketball player there. In 2013, he was named a first-team Parade All-American for basketball.

He joined the football team in his last year of high school. He caught 31 passes for 682 yards. He helped his team, the Dragons, have a great season with 10 wins and only 2 losses.

In basketball, he led the Dragons to win three state championships in a row. He was also named Alabama Mr. Basketball in 2013.

Many colleges wanted Wilson to play for them. He chose to go to Mississippi State. Other schools that offered him a spot included Auburn and Tennessee.

College Football Journey

Wilson played college football for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. He was a key player for their team.

Freshman Year (2013)

Wilson played his first college game in 2013. He caught 2 passes for 17 yards. Later, he scored his first touchdown with a 59-yard pass against LSU.

He had a fantastic game against Texas A&M. He caught 7 passes for 75 yards and scored 2 touchdowns.

After the football season, Wilson also played for the Bulldogs men's basketball team. He played in 7 games. He scored 6 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Sophomore Year (2014)

In 2014, Wilson started every game as a wide receiver for the Bulldogs. He helped his team reach the number one ranking in the country. He caught four passes and scored a touchdown in wins against top teams like LSU and Auburn.

Towards the end of the season, he played very well. He had 8 catches in games against Alabama and Ole Miss. In the Orange Bowl, he caught 9 passes and scored 2 touchdowns. Wilson was the top receiver for the Bulldogs in 2014. He led in catches, yards, and touchdowns.

Wilson was on the men's basketball team roster in 2014–15. However, he did not play in any games. This was the end of his basketball career.

Junior Year (2015)

In 2015, Wilson caught 8 passes and scored a touchdown against LSU. He gained 102 yards and scored 2 touchdowns in a win over Missouri. He also had a career-high 10 catches in an exciting game against Arkansas.

Wilson holds several records at Mississippi State. He is 5th in school history with 133 catches. He is 6th with 1,949 receiving yards. He is also 2nd with 22 touchdowns.

Playing Pro Football

On January 1, 2016, Wilson decided to try for the 2016 NFL Draft. Some experts compared him to famous NFL receivers like Calvin Johnson. However, he was not chosen by any team in the draft. He did get a chance to work out with the Chicago Bears later that year.

In 2018, Wilson joined the Albany Empire in the Arena Football League. He signed as a free agent. But he did not play any games for the team.

Later Life

De'Runnya Wilson passed away on January 21, 2020, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was 25 years old. He was a father to five children.
