DeLisle is found at 30°22′44″N 89°16′5″W. It sits on the north side of DeLisle Bayou and the Wolf River. These waterways separate DeLisle from the nearby city of Pass Christian.

How DeLisle Got Started

The history of DeLisle goes back to the early 1700s. A French explorer named Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville was sent by the French king to set up a colony in this area. On one of his trips, he was joined by a talented mapmaker named Compte Guillaume Delisle. Together, they explored and named several places, including Bayou Delisle.

The area north of the bayou, which is now DeLisle, shares a zip code with Pass Christian. However, it's not actually inside the city limits of Pass Christian. The first records of people settling here show that Barthelome Grelot and his brother-in-law Philipe Saucier were among the earliest French settlers. They received land grants from the Spanish government in the late 1700s. Other early families included Jean Baptiste Nicaise, Pierre Moran, and Charles Ladner.

A post office served the DeLisle community from 1884 until 1974.
