History of Dean
Dean is located on the north side of the Beartooth Mountains. A long time ago, people in Dean mostly worked in farming. There were also a few mines nearby.
Dean had its own post office for many years. It first opened on March 10, 1902. Bessie Haskin was the very first person in charge of it. The post office closed for a short time in 1914. But it reopened the next year and stayed open until 1951.
Today, Dean is still a small community. It has homes where people live all year round. There are also homes that people use only during certain seasons.
