Dease River First Nation facts for kids
The Dease River First Nation is a group of Kaska Dena people. They are also known as the Dease River Nation. A First Nation is one of the many Indigenous groups in Canada. This First Nation has its own local government, called a band government.
Their main offices are in a place called Good Hope Lake, British Columbia. This community is located in the northern part of British Columbia. It's found along the Stewart-Cassiar Highway, not far from an old mining town named Cassiar. The Dease River First Nation has a registered population of 162 people.
Lands of the Dease River First Nation
The Dease River First Nation manages several areas of land called Indian Reserves. These are special lands set aside for First Nations communities in Canada.
The Indian Reserves under their care include:
- Dease River IR No.1, which is about 78.70 hectares in size.
- Dease River IR No.2, a smaller piece of land (0.50 hectares) located on the left side of the Dease River. It's about 4 miles northeast of where the Blue River joins the Dease River.
- Dease River IR No.3, another small area of 0.50 hectares.
- Dease River IR No.4, which is also 0.50 hectares. This reserve is located about 10 kilometers north of Boya Lake Provincial Park.
