Deborah Helen Chancellor is an English writer who was born on July 7, 1966. She has written more than 70 books for children and young people.

Her Early Life and Education

Deborah Chancellor grew up as the second of four sisters. She went to The Broxbourne School in Hertfordshire from 1977 to 1984. Later, she studied Modern and Medieval Languages at Newnham College, Cambridge. This was from 1985 to 1988.

Writing Books for Kids

Deborah Chancellor writes many different kinds of books for children. She writes both fiction (made-up stories) and non-fiction (true stories and facts).

Some of her non-fiction books include:

  • Harriet Tubman (2013) – a biography about a famous historical figure.
  • Moving to Britain (2008) – about important current topics.
  • Everything You Need to Know (2007) – covering general interesting facts.

Awards and Recognition

Deborah Chancellor's book Being a Vegetarian (2009) won an award in the UK. It was named the best vegetarian book in the UK section of the Gourmand World Cookbook awards. It also came in second place in the worldwide category.

In 2012, she was part of the Newnham College, Cambridge team. This team took part in a special Christmas episode of University Challenge.

Helping Other Writers

From 2009 to 2011, Deborah Chancellor was a Literary Fellow at Newnham College, Cambridge. This means she helped and supported other writers. She worked with the Royal Literary Fund to do this.
