Early Life and Education
Deborah Roberts was born in Perry, Georgia, USA. Her father, Benjamin Roberts, owned a business, and her mother, Ruth Roberts, was a homemaker. Deborah went to the University of Georgia. In 1982, she earned a degree in journalism from the Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Just ten years later, in 1992, the University of Georgia honored her. They gave her the Distinguished Alumnus Award for her quick success as a journalist.
Deborah Roberts' Journalism Career
Deborah Roberts started her journalism journey in 1982. Her first job was at WTVM, a local TV station in Columbus, Georgia. After that, she moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, to work at WBIR.
Working at WFTV and NBC News
From 1987 to 1990, Deborah worked at WFTV in Orlando, Florida. She was a bureau chief, which means she led a news office. She also reported from NASA and co-anchored the weekend news. In 1990, she joined NBC News. There, she worked as a general reporter. Later, she became a correspondent for Dateline NBC, a popular news show.
Joining ABC News and Other Shows
In 1995, Deborah Roberts moved to ABC News. She became a correspondent for 20/20, another well-known news program. She also anchored World News Tonight Weekend and Good Morning America. These are major news shows. In 2006, she was a guest host on The View, a popular talk show.
