Her Early Life and Education
Deborah Roberts was born in Perry, Georgia. Her father, Benjamin Roberts, owned a business, and her mother, Ruth Roberts, was a housewife.
She went to the University of Georgia. In 1982, she earned a degree in journalism from the Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. This prepared her for her exciting career.
In 1992, the University of Georgia gave her a special award. It was called the Distinguished Alumnus Award. She received it because she quickly became a very successful journalist.
Her Career in Journalism
Deborah Roberts started her journalism journey in 1982. Her first job was at WTVM, a local TV station in Columbus, Georgia. After that, she worked at WBIR in Knoxville, Tennessee.
From 1987 to 1990, she worked at WFTV in Orlando, Florida. She was in charge of a news office there. She also reported on news from NASA and co-anchored the weekend news.
