What is Decaturville's History?

The area we now know as Decaturville was first called "Upper Settlement." This name was used because people settled there a bit later than another nearby place called "Lower Settlement," which is now known as Fillmore.

A post office was opened in Decaturville in 1851. A post office was very important back then because it was the main way people sent and received letters and packages. It helped connect the community to the rest of the world. This post office stayed open for many years, finally closing in 1904.
