About Officer Casey Jones
The main character in Decoy was Patricia "Casey" Jones, played by Beverly Garland. Casey was a female police officer working in New York City. Her job often involved going undercover to solve cases.
Casey would pretend to be different people to catch criminals. She might act as a nurse, a singer, or other characters. Casey usually worked alone on her police missions. The show did not share much about her personal life.
Why Decoy Was Popular
Decoy was a very popular show. It was one of the top 10 most-watched syndicated programs. This means it was sold to many different TV stations across the country. The show stayed popular even after new episodes stopped being made.
How Decoy Was Made
The show Decoy was filmed by a company called Pyramid Productions. Some parts of the show were filmed right in New York City. They used real places like Greenwich Village and the Lower East Side. Other scenes were filmed in a studio in the Bronx.
Filming for the first episode started on March 28, 1957. It took only seven days to finish. In August 1957, a magazine called Billboard said the show was selling very fast. Big TV stations bought the rights to show Decoy even before it aired.
Production of new episodes stopped on May 29, 1958. This was because the producers ran out of money to keep making the show. However, reruns of Decoy were shown for seven more years. During this time, the reruns were often called Police Woman.
