Deepwater trilogy facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Deepwater trilogy is an exciting series of science fiction novels written by the author Ken Catran. These books are made for teenagers and young adults. The three books in the series are named Deepwater Black (1992), Deepwater Landing (1993), and Deepwater Angels (1994). The stories talk about important topics like keeping our planet clean (pollution), treating everyone fairly, and how people make decisions together (politics). A big idea in all the books is survival, not just for yourself, but for something much bigger. Other cool themes include finding hope and comfort even in dark times, learning to be responsible when you're young, and how important young people are for the future of humanity. The books also explore ideas about standing up for yourself and being brave when you face things you don't understand.

What if Your Life Was a Dream?

Imagine you are 13 or 14 years old. What if one day you found out that your whole life so far was just a dream? Or maybe it was a memory from someone else? What if you were a clone of that person, living their past life?

What would you do if you suddenly woke up from that dream? You find yourself on a huge spaceship, hundreds of years in the future. You are millions of kilometers away from Earth. There's no one there to help you except a smart computer named COL. There are also a few other teenagers who look a bit unusual, just like you. And there's a powerful being called NUN who raised you. But NUN has now disappeared for some unknown reason.

This is the life of the crew of the spaceship Deepwater. They are a group of blue, green, red, and multicolored young people. They find themselves traveling past all known stars. They are heading to a mystery destination. They face many unknown dangers, and sometimes, the biggest danger is themselves!

Deepwater Black: The First Adventure

Robbie Mikkelson is a normal 13-year-old boy. He goes to school, plays hockey, and sometimes avoids bullies. He lives with his mom, dad, older sister Sarah, and younger brother David. His friends at school include Denie Miles, Meatgrinder, and Reeboks. Everything is pretty simple until a girl named Yoona appears in his life. She wears a gray tracksuit.

This girl is multicolored, and no one else can see her. She tells Robbie strange things he doesn't understand. She says he is needed on Deepwater. Before he can even think, he is suddenly pulled away from everything he knows. He discovers that he is Reb, the second-in-command of a giant spaceship. He is the same person, but also different. He learns that his life on Earth was just a dream. Now, he is in charge of Deepwater with Yoona, Bren, Gret, Lis, and Zak. They are all descendants of people who once lived in the Solar System.

These teenagers are tired from long shifts. They are fighting to stay alive against dangers like trites, amebs, solunks, and mag-mets. There's also the 'Jel,' a dangerous, living substance deep in the ship's air vents. Robbie is forced to live two lives. He zooms back to Earth whenever "prexes" hit him. His Deepwater life becomes more and more real. To make things harder, the crew starts to distrust each other. Questions about who they are lead to even bigger mysteries. Who are they really? Why are they alone in space? Where are they going? What is hidden in the unknown parts of Deepwater? What is the mysterious, damaged, dark ship they find? Robbie needs to help Yoona, but how can he when he doesn't even know who he is?

Deepwater Landing: A New Crew Member

The second book tells the story of Denie Miles. She wakes up on Deepwater as Cei. She was in one of two closed caskets from Deepwater Black. The other six caskets had opened earlier. Deepwater had to go back into space. It was searching for a special ingredient needed to finish its mission. Enemies from the past return and follow her back to Earth. There, a woman named Chibbi Orduna helps her find some answers. Across the huge distance of space, even worse enemies are waiting at their destination. These enemies are scary because they are very much like the crew themselves.

Deepwater Angels: The Final Mission

Only one final casket has stayed closed until now. When Conn, a kid from Earth, wakes up, he finds himself on Deepwater. The spaceship is now stuck on Earth. Life is starting over, but Deepwater has one last mission to complete. This mission is right here on its home planet. The danger is bigger than ever before. Many mysteries need to be solved. Join Conn on his adventure to help bring life back to a planet that is home, but also full of dangers. These dangers are both alien and very threatening.
