Defensa Interior facts for kids
Defensa Interior (DI) was a group formed in September 1961. It was created by a meeting of the Movimiento Libertario Español (Spanish Libertarian Movement). This group aimed to fight against the government of Francoist Spain. DI was active for a few years and was later ended by their own meeting in 1965.
What was Defensa Interior?
Defensa Interior, often called DI, was a group of people who believed in anarchism. Anarchism is a political idea where people think society should be organized without a central government or rulers. DI was formed to actively oppose the government of Francisco Franco in Spain.
Why was DI formed?
During the time DI was active, Spain was ruled by a dictatorship led by General Francisco Franco. This period is known as Francoist Spain. Many people did not agree with Franco's rule, and groups like DI wanted to bring about change. Their main goal was to fight against this government.
What happened to DI?
Defensa Interior was active for about four years. It was a group that came before other similar groups. Some of these later groups included the First of May Group, GARI, and the Angry Brigade. In 1965, the members of Defensa Interior decided to end the group.
