The Delaware Academy of Medicine, also known as the Academy/DPHA, is a special group that started in 1930. It is a nonprofit organization, which means it works to help people rather than make money. Its main goal is to make the community healthier and happier. It does this by teaching people about health and promoting good health practices. Today, you can find the Academy/DPHA in Newark, Delaware.
In November 2013, the Delaware Academy of Medicine joined forces with the American Public Health Association. This made it the official Delaware Public Health Association. Because of this, its full name became the Delaware Academy of Medicine / Delaware Public Health Association, or Academy/DPHA for short.

The Academy's First Home
The very first building for the Academy was at 1925 Lovering Avenue in Wilmington, Delaware. This building has a long history! It was first built in 1815 as a bank. Later, in 1931-1932, people who wanted to save old buildings moved it to its current spot. They moved it to stop it from being torn down. Their plan was for it to become the Academy's new home.
The Academy used this historic building until 2006. After that, it moved to the campus of the Christiana Care Health System in Newark, Delaware.
