A Look at Delhi's Past
Delhi was not always called Delhi. Its first name was Lurton's. The Lurton family started this community and named it after themselves.
A post office was opened in Lurton's in 1833. A few years later, in 1836, the post office and the community changed their name to Delhi.
Learning in Delhi
For many years, Delhi had its own public school. Students from kindergarten all the way to 12th grade attended schools in the Jersey Community Unit School District 100.
One of the schools was the Delhi Elementary School. However, this school closed in June 2012. This happened because the school district changed how it organized its schools.
