Deli de Luca
The inside of a Deli de Luca shop

Deli de Luca is a popular chain of shops in Norway. It's a mix between a convenience store and a delicatessen. This means you can grab quick snacks, drinks, and everyday items, but also find special, tasty foods. The company started in 2003. It was created by Adriano Capoferro and four friends: Thor Johansen, Geir Syversen, Terje Bergh, and Vesna Milkovic.

You can find Deli de Luca stores in many Norwegian cities. There are 22 shops in Oslo, four in Bergen, and others in Stavanger, Trondheim, Kristiansand, Skien, and Mo i Rana. Many of these stores are open all day and all night, 24/7! In 2006, a big Norwegian company called NorgesGruppen bought most of Deli de Luca.

How Deli de Luca Started

The five people who started Deli de Luca used to work together at another convenience store chain called 7-Eleven. In Norway, 7-Eleven is run by a large company called Reitan-Gruppen. The founders of Deli de Luca felt that working at 7-Eleven was a bit strict and didn't allow for many new ideas.

So, with some financial help from others, these five friends decided to create their own kind of shop. They wanted to combine the quick service of a convenience store with the special foods you find in a delicatessen. This way, they could offer something new and exciting to customers.

Why Deli de Luca Was Sold

According to Adriano Capoferro, one of the founders, Deli de Luca was sold because the people who first invested money in the company wanted to get their money back at a certain time.

When NorgesGruppen bought Deli de Luca, the original financial supporters were paid back completely. The five founding partners also received some money for their part of the company. NorgesGruppen is known for buying smaller food shop chains in Norway. They often let these smaller chains keep their own brand and how they run their shops. However, NorgesGruppen helps them by using its large buying power and business systems. This helps the smaller chains save money and become more successful.
