Delia Matache (born on February 7, 1982), known simply as Delia, is a famous Romanian singer and TV star. She is one of Romania's most successful artists. Delia has released many popular songs that have topped the music charts.
Delia's Journey in Music
Delia was born in Bucharest, Romania. She went to the Dinu Lipatti music high school. There, she studied piano and flute for five years. Delia has a brother named Eduard and a sister named Oana. Her mother, Gina, is also a singer.
Delia started her music career in 1999 when she was in 11th grade. She joined a pop group called N&D with Nick (Nicolae Marin). They released three albums and several hit songs. One of their biggest hits was "Nu e vina mea" ("It Is Not My Fault") in 2001. The group broke up in 2002.
In 2003, Delia began her solo career. Her first solo song, "Parfum de fericire" ("Perfume of Happiness"), was very popular. It reached number four on the Romanian charts. She also released her first solo album with the same name.
Delia tried to represent Romania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006. She released her second album, Listen Up!, in 2006. This album included the song "Listen Up" with Matteo. In 2008, Delia joined a dance show called Dansez pentru tine, which is like Dancing With the Stars. She also performed at the Golden Stag Festival in 2009.
Delia had her first solo number-one hits in Romania in 2014. These songs were "Ipotecat" ("Mortgaged") and "Pe aripi de vânt" ("On Wind's Wings"). Both songs reached the top of the Airplay 100 chart. In 2015, she had another number-one hit, "Cum ne noi" ("How We Us"), with Carla's Dreams. From 2015 to 2017, many of her songs were in the top ten. These included "Da, mamă" ("Yes, Mother"; 2015), "Gura ta" ("Your Mouth"; 2016), and "Rămâi cu bine" ("All the Best"; 2017). Her song "Ne vedem noi" ("We'll See Each Other") with Smiley also became a number-one hit in 2020.
Delia has been a judge on X Factor România since 2012. She also became a judge on the comedy show iUmor in 2016. Delia has held big concerts like Deliria in 2016 and Acadelia in 2019. At these concerts, she performed songs with a mix of pop rock and trap styles.
Delia cares about important causes. She supports people with psoriasis. She also supports the LGBT community, believing everyone should be treated with kindness and respect. Her 2018 song "Acadele" talks about important social messages.
Delia has also lent her voice to movies. She was the voice of Vexy in Smurfs 2 and Miss Hannigan in Annie.
