The Story of Delny Castle
Early Owners: The Earls of Ross
For many years, Delny Castle belonged to a powerful family. They were known as the MacTaggert Earls of Ross. These Earls were important leaders in Scotland. They controlled the castle until the late 1300s.
Two famous Earls of Ross are known to have died at Delny Castle. One was William II, Earl of Ross, who passed away around 1323. The other was William III, Earl of Ross, who died in 1372. This shows how important the castle was to their family.
New Owners: The Munro Family
Later, in the early 1500s, the castle changed hands. It became the property of the Munro family. The Munros were another important Scottish clan. They took over the castle and its surrounding lands.
Where is it Now?
Even though we know Delny Castle existed, its exact location is still a puzzle. Historians and archaeologists have searched for it. However, the ruins or foundations of the castle have not yet been found. It remains a lost piece of Scottish history.
