DeLong (also spelled De Long or Delong) is a small place in Illinois, United States. It is not a city or town with its own government. Instead, it is known as an unincorporated community. DeLong is located in Knox County, within Orange Township. You can find it about 5.2 miles (8.4 km) east of the town of Abingdon, right on County Route 5.
History of DeLong
DeLong was officially planned and created in 1882. It was named to honor George W. DeLong, who was a brave officer in the United States Navy. He was also an explorer who lived from 1844 to 1881.
A post office, where people could send and receive mail, opened in DeLong in 1883. This post office served the community for many years. It stayed open until 1969, when it finally closed down.
