Demetris Syllouris (Greek: Δημήτρης Συλλούρης; born 27 July 1953) is a Greek-Cypriot politician. He was born in Nicosia, which is the capital city of Cyprus. He studied Civil engineering at the University of East London before starting his career in politics.
Mr. Syllouris held an important role as the president of the Cypriot parliament. This means he was in charge of the main law-making body in Cyprus. He also led the European Party for many years, from 2005 to 2016.

Demetris Syllouris's Political Journey
Demetris Syllouris has been involved in Cypriot politics for a long time. He represented the area of Nicosia in the parliament. He was first elected as a representative in 1991.
Serving in Parliament
He served under different political parties throughout his career. From 1991 to 2004, he was part of the Democratic Rally Party (DISY). Later, he joined and led the European Party. Since 2016, he has been a member of the "Solidarity" movement.
On 2 June 2016, he was chosen to be the President of the House of Representatives. This is a very important position in the government. It means he led the discussions and decisions made in the parliament.
Stepping Down from Leadership
In October 2020, Mr. Syllouris stepped down from his role as President of the House of Representatives. This happened after some questions were raised about certain actions. He decided to resign from his government position at that time.
