Demetris Syllouris (Greek: Δημήτρης Συλλούρης; born 27 July 1953) is a Greek-Cypriot politician. He served as the president of the Cypriot parliament. He was also the leader of the European Party from 2005 to 2016.
Syllouris was born in Nicosia, which is in Cyprus. He studied Civil Engineering at the University of East London.

Political Journey
Demetris Syllouris has been involved in politics for many years. He represented the Nicosia area in the Cypriot parliament. He was a member of different political parties during his time as a representative. These parties included the Democratic Rally Party (DISY) and the European Party. From March 2016, he was part of the "Solidarity" movement.
Leading the Parliament
On 2 June 2016, Demetris Syllouris was chosen for a very important role. He became the President of the House of Representatives. This means he was in charge of the Cypriot parliament. He held this position during the Eleventh Term of Office for the House.
Stepping Down from Office
In October 2020, an investigation by Al Jazeera looked into certain matters. Following this investigation, Demetris Syllouris decided to step down from his role. He resigned from his position in the government.

About the Investigation
In October 2020, Al Jazeera showed a video. This video was recorded in October 2019. It showed Syllouris meeting with journalists. The journalists were pretending to be representatives of a businessman. Syllouris said he was playing along to get more information. He stated he reported the case to the authorities later. In April 2021, the investigation, known as 'The Cyprus Papers', was nominated for a BAFTA award.
