The Demino Ski Marathon (Russian: Дёминский лыжный марафон) is a big cross-country skiing race in Russia. It happens every year and is super popular. Skiers from all over the world come to compete!
About the Demino Ski Marathon
This exciting race has been happening since 2007. It's known as the most popular ski race in Russia. For example, in 2015, 1402 people took part!
The Demino Ski Marathon is part of something called Worldloppet. This is a group of the best long-distance ski races around the world. Being a Worldloppet event means it's a really important race on the global skiing calendar. It joined Worldloppet in June 2012.
Since 2008, the marathon has also been a member of Russialoppet. This is a similar group, but for major ski races specifically within Russia.
Race Details
The main race distance is 50 kilometers. Skiers use the "free style" technique, which looks a bit like ice skating on skis. They complete this distance in one or two laps.
The race takes place at the Ski Center Demino. This center is located near the city of Rybinsk. The ski marathon is also part of a bigger event called the Demino Cup. This cup includes a cross-country cycling marathon and a running half-marathon too.
The marathon has only been cancelled once. This happened in 2014 because there wasn't enough snow for the race.
