Denis "Piggy" D'Amour (born September 24, 1959 – died August 26, 2005) was a talented Canadian guitarist. He was best known as a member of the heavy metal band Voivod. He played with the band from when it started in 1982 until he passed away in 2005.

Piggy had a very unique way of playing music. Instead of following strict rules, he liked to experiment and try new things. When he was a child, he learned to play the classical violin. He was inspired by bands like King Crimson, Pink Floyd, and Rush, which are known for their progressive rock music.

Piggy's Passing

In the summer of 2005, Denis D'Amour was diagnosed with colon cancer. Doctors planned an operation, but they found that the cancer had spread too much. This meant the operation could not be done.

Piggy went into a coma in a hospital in Montreal on August 25, 2005. His family and friends were with him during his final hours. He passed away the next day, on August 26, 2005, around 11:45 PM.

A documentary called Metal: A Headbanger's Journey was released shortly after his death, on September 7, 2005. This film included an interview with Piggy.

Even after he passed away, Piggy's music continued to be released. His final guitar recordings can be heard on two of Voivod's albums: Katorz, released in 2006, and Infini, released in 2009.
