Denton, Arkansas was once a small village in Lawrence County. Today, no one lives there, and the only thing left of the old village is the Bethel Cemetery. This is where many of the people who used to live in Denton are buried.

History of Denton

Denton was started a long time ago, in 1830. It was one of the very first communities in Lawrence County that wasn't officially a town or city. About 14 years later, in 1844, a church called the New Hope Baptist Church of Denton was built there. This church is still around today!

For many years, people lived in Denton. But eventually, everyone moved away. The last two people to leave Denton were Everett Moore and Loma Moore. They moved out in 1979.

Many years later, in 2011, something special happened. The cemetery in Denton was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important historical site that should be protected.
