Derek and the Dominos was an American blues rock band that was active for a short time in the early 1970s. The band was formed by famous guitarist Eric Clapton. Other members included Carl Radle, Bobby Whitlock, Jim Gordon, and later, Duane Allman.
Even though they were together for only about a year, they created one very famous album. This album is called Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. It includes the well-known song "Layla", which has a very famous guitar riff.

About the Band
Derek and the Dominos started in 1970. The musicians in the band had played together before. They were part of a group called Delaney, Bonnie & Friends. Eric Clapton enjoyed playing with these musicians. He felt very comfortable with them.
After touring with Delaney, Bonnie & Friends, Eric Clapton decided to form his own new band. He wanted a group where he could play music he loved. This led to the creation of Derek and the Dominos.

The band's most important work was their only studio album. It was released in 1970. The album is a double album, meaning it has many songs. It mixes blues, rock, and other styles of music.
