Carl Radle was well-known for working with the famous guitarist Eric Clapton. Their musical journey together began in 1969. Carl played with a group called Delaney and Bonnie and Friends. Later, in 1970, he joined Derek and the Dominos. In this band, he played alongside drummer Jim Gordon, guitarist Duane Allman, and keyboard player Bobby Whitlock.

In 1970, Carl also joined Joe Cocker's "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" tour. He worked on all of Eric Clapton's solo music projects from 1970 to 1979. During a time when Clapton was taking a break, Carl shared tapes of musicians he had been working with.

Carl was more than just a band member. He also helped arrange music for several songs. One famous example is "Motherless Children." He even earned credit as an associate producer for Clapton's album No Reason to Cry. Carl was also part of a psychedelic band called Colours. He played on their first album and was a guest on their second.

Carl Radle was a session musician. This means he was a musician who was hired to play on recordings for many different artists. He played bass for many famous blues rock and rock and roll artists in the 1970s. These included Rita Coolidge and Kris Kristofferson.

He also appeared in the movie The Concert for Bangladesh. Music from this concert was released as an album in 1972. Before this album came out, Carl recorded with many other artists. These included Dave Mason, J.J. Cale, George Harrison, Joe Cocker, Leon Russell, and Buddy Guy. He was also the bass player for Gary Lewis & the Playboys. He played with them on TV shows like The Mike Douglas Show and The Ed Sullivan Show. You can also see him in the 1978 film The Last Waltz. This movie showed the final concert of the band The Band in 1976.
