Dermod O'Brien was born in October 1594. His father was Murrough O'Brien, 4th Baron Inchiquin. His grandfather was Murrough McDermot O'Brien, 3rd Baron Inchiquin. Dermod became a baron when he was only two years old. This meant he inherited a special noble title.
Dermod's Family
Dermod O'Brien married a woman named Ellen. She was the oldest daughter of Sir Edmund FitzJohn FitzGerald. Her family was powerful and lived in County Cork, Ireland.
Dermod and Ellen had four sons and several daughters. Here are some of their children:
- Murrough, their oldest son, became the 6th Baron Inchiquin. He later became the first Earl of Inchiquin, which is an even higher noble title.
- Henry (died 1645) was a soldier. He was a lieutenant colonel in the army of King Charles I.

- Mary married Michael Boyle. He was an important church leader, the Archbishop of Armagh. He was also the Lord Chancellor of Ireland. They had many children together.
- Ann died without marrying.
