Derrick Robinson's Baseball Journey
Starting with the Kansas City Royals
Derrick Robinson began his professional baseball career when the Kansas City Royals chose him in the 2006 Major League Baseball draft. He was the 107th player picked overall.
In 2008, Derrick played for the Wilmington Blue Rocks. He played in 124 games and showed off his speed by stealing 62 bases. After that season, the Royals named him their "baserunner of the year." This award recognized his amazing speed on the bases.
By 2010, Derrick was playing for the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals. He played in 127 games and stole 50 bases. His hitting average was .286, which is quite good. In November 2010, the Royals added Derrick to their 40-man roster. This meant they wanted to keep him and protect him from other teams.
In 2012, Derrick was recognized for his excellent defense. He was named the left-fielder for the Minor League Rawlings Gold Glove Award team. This award goes to the best defensive players. In November 2012, the Royals decided to let Derrick go, making him a free agent.
Playing for the Cincinnati Reds
On December 20, 2012, Derrick signed a contract with the Cincinnati Reds. He worked hard and made the team's Opening Day roster in April 2013. This was a big achievement, as it meant he would play in Major League Baseball.
During his time with the Reds in 2013, Derrick played in 102 games. He had a batting average of .255 and stole four bases. He helped the team by getting on base and scoring runs. After the 2013 season, the Reds decided to let Derrick go, and he became a free agent again.
In February 2014, it was announced that Derrick would miss the entire 2014 season. He needed to have surgery on his shoulder.
Other Teams and Independent Leagues
