Deselm is a small, quiet place in Kankakee County, Illinois. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government.
History
Deselm has a bit of history! A long time ago, in 1867, a post office opened there. This was a place where people could send and receive letters and packages. The post office stayed open for many years, until 1902.
The community got its name from a man named John B. Deselm. He was the very first postmaster, which means he was in charge of the post office when it first started.
