Desmond "Dessie" Sloyan was born on 2 February 1976. He is a famous Irish former Gaelic footballer. Dessie played for the Sligo county team for ten seasons. His career at the top level lasted from 1996 until 2006.
Playing for Sligo
Dessie Sloyan was a key player for Sligo. He played as a full-forward. In 2001, Sligo had a big win against Kildare. Dessie scored eight points in that exciting game. This was part of the 2001 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.
Coaching Success
After his playing days, Dessie became a successful coach. He led his home club, Easkey, to a big win. They won the Connacht Junior Club Football Championship in 2018.
Dessie also coached the Sligo GAA Under-20 team. In 2022, he guided them to their first ever provincial title. They won the Connacht Under-20 Football Championship. This was a historic moment for Sligo football.
In August 2022, Dessie joined the coaching staff. He became part of the Longford senior football team backroom team. He worked with manager Paddy Christie.
