At the end of his senior season, Deyonta was named Mr. Basketball of Michigan for 2015. This award showed he was the top high school basketball player in the state. He received the award during a state championship game.
Deyonta was the second player from Muskegon High School to win this award in a row. This was a big achievement for his school's basketball program.
Playing in the McDonald's All-American Game
On April 1, 2015, Deyonta played in the 2015 McDonald's All-American Boys Game. This game features the best high school basketball players from across the country. He was part of the West team.
In this game, Deyonta scored 6 points and led his team with 9 rebounds. Being chosen for this game was a huge honor for him and for West Michigan basketball. He was the first player from that area to play in the game since 1988.
